Ponteland Annual Events

The Ponteland calendar has a number of annual events throughout the year, starting with the Wheelbarrow Race on New Years Day. Now organised by Ponteland 41 Club, the wheelbarrow race is a tradition which is believed to date back to the 14th century.

In June we have the Party in the Park which is organised by the Christian Churches in Ponteland working together. July sees Music in the Park which is a relative newcomer to the calendar.  The Duck Race which used to be held in June has now been moved to September to avoid clashing with the Party in the Park and is one of the main fund raising events for the Rotary Club of Ponteland who work tirelessly throughout the year.

The Parish Flower Show being held as always in Ponteland Memorial Hall in early September. The Rotary Club Opera Gala Concert is the penultimate event of the year held at the Britannia Airport Hotel in October. Lastly the Ponteland Lions Swimarathon, held in the Leisure Centre pool in November finishes off the main events of the year.

Every two years the Ponteland Summer Festival of Pictures, Flowers and Music is held in St. Mary’s Church and the Church Hall running for a whole week around the first week of August. There are many more smaller events throughout the year which will find their way on to these pages in the fullness of time.
